Our last day in Denmark

Our last morning at Lars and Ilse’s comfortable home

This was our last morning at Ilse and Lars’ house.  Lars was not feeling very well this morning and so we had a change of plans.  Lars was supposed to come with us for the day and then drive us to the airport.  Instead it was better for Ilse to spend some time with us and then take us to a nearby town where we could catch a train back to Copenhagen.  Ilse took us to the Oplevelsescenter Nyvang  https://www.oplevelsescenternyvang.dk/  which is a museum where you can experience life and everyday activities in a village and small railway town in the mid-20th century.

Ilse transported us in their gorgeous red Tesla

I was able to see an authentic creamery from the time when my grandfather had worked and trained in one in Denmark.

During the war, a chicory/ground rye grain mix was used as a coffee substitute.  We got to try some at the museum.

Some interesting beehives at the museum

We didn’t spend too much time there because the temperature was quite hot and it was about to rain. From there, Ilse drove us to the nearby town of Holbæk where we took the train to the Copenhagen airport where we had reserved a room at the Clarion Hotel.
We had a travel challenge when our train broke down and all verbal instructions over the intercom were in Danish.  We sat clueless as everyone exited the train until a kind stranger explained what was going on to us in English.  She told us that our train was experiencing an electrical malfunction and that we may be waiting for hours but Ann’s quick thinking saved the day.  As we exited the train she heard a porter blow his whistle signaling “all aboard” on another train.  She ran up to him and simply asked “airport?”  He said yes.  We jumped on and immediately departed straight to the airport.  We will be flying back to Oslo in the morning.
Ann deserves a beer after her quick thinking saved the day!

Always say YES to dessert!
