| Starting our canal cruise tour |
This morning, Ann and I took ourselves by metro to the Nyhavn canal area to do some sight seeing. We signed up for a canal cruise with an English speaking guide on board. It was a great idea. It lasted for an hour and it gave us a great sense of the lay of the land and the guide was very informative, explaining many of the buildings and landmarks to us. There were more canals than I was aware of and because of that, there were many bridges that we had to go underneath. The water level was quite high and so we had to be careful not to bang our heads on them as we passed through.
After the cruise, we found a nice quiet cafe out of the busy tourist zone and had some lunch.
We made plans to meet Brian and Lone at the CopenHill facility at 2:30. CopenHill is a garbage incineration complex which has a duel purpose. It is a huge towering structure which is designed in such a way that an all weather ski hill has been incorporated on it. We walked the outside stairs all the way to the top, however there is a free elevator if you want to ride up. There is a cafe at the top where we enjoyed a beer and took in the view of Copenhagen from up there. It was also entertaining watching people ski down the hill. There were even some people in their business suits skiing down the structure.
From there, we walked to Christiania and meandered through this interesting fringe community.
From there, the four of us met Robert and Gitte at the nearby Ravelinen restaurant where we had a great table overlooking a lake. The food and company was fantastic and we were there from 6:15 to 9:30. We had such a fun time.
