We got to the train station in plenty of time. The train departed at 6:20 am and we arrived in Myrdal at a little after 11 am. There were several stops along the way and it was very interesting to see snow appear as we got up to higher elevations.
At the small town of Finse, you can actually see the Blue glacier from the train station.
At Myrdal, we switched to a smaller and older styled train to take us down the steep 1 hour trip to the town of Flåm, where we will spend the night. This train actually has a tunnel in the mountain that does a complete 360 degree loop all within the mountain.

We arrived too early to check into our hotel and so we asked to store our luggage at the hotel so that we could leave for a hike. That was not an issue. We did the Brekkefossen Waterfall hike which we modified slightly to make it a 7 km loop. It was quite a climb to the top of the lookout point which included a section with 578 stone steps which were build by Sherpas.
When we were done the hike, we both noticed that our legs were shaking.
We stayed at the Fretheim Hotel and had a wonderful supper at one of their 3 restaurants.
When we arrived in Flåm, there was a huge German Cruise ship called the Aida Prima parked right in town, in the fjord. It completely blocked a lot of the scenic view.
However, after supper we went for a stroll and got to witness the scene as the huge ship left the port.
